Healthier Super Bowl Snacks

Regardless of which team you’re cheering for on Super Bowl Sunday, one thing is for certain – the snack food you’re bringing to the party will make you a winner!  Or will it…?  Actually, Super Bowl Sunday can rank right up there with other eating feasts like Thanksgiving or Christmas in terms of the number of calories consumed in the span of just a few hours.  Rather than use Super Bowl Sunday as an excuse to ditch your New Year’s resolution to eat healthier, offer to bring a healthy snack or two.

I love this Roasted Buffalo Shrimp from Martha Stewart.  It’s a delicious substitute for Buffalo chicken wings, which can pack about 200 calories and 12 grams of fat in a measly 3-piece serving.  Shrimp, on the other hand, is a super low calorie and low fat protein, so you can get full on almost 20 of these shrimp for the same calorie cost.  The only fat in them comes from heart healthy olive oil.

Healthy EatingTip!    Substitute nonfat Greek yogurt for the sour cream, to save even more calories, and sprinkle in a few crumbles of bleu cheese.
