Hi there and thanks for stopping by! I’m Anne Danahy, the blogger behind Craving Something Healthy. I’m a registered dietitian nutritionist who specializes in wellness, women’s health, and healthy aging. I also get strangely excited about teaching people how to take the science of nutrition and get it onto their plates.
I live by the motto “You Are What You Eat” (with a little bit of “Everything in Moderation” sprinkled in), and I love to inspire individuals to eat more healthfully, even if it’s one meal or one recipe at a time.
I’m fascinated by the relationship between health and food, and love to share what I learn about the ever-evolving research in my field. I never get tired of talking or writing about food. I have been, and always will be a cookbook-collector, food blog-reader, recipe-clipper, and cooking class-taker. One of my favorite things about working as a nutritionist is that I get to share the recipes, cooking, and healthy eating tips that I use in my own kitchen with my clients and readers.
I live…
in the Scottsdale area, with my husband, who after 31 years of living with me still counts French fries and onion rings as vegetables. We have a kitty named Bella, and I’m a very proud mama to two fabulously awesome adult children who have both turned out to be excellent cooks and pretty decent housekeepers.
I work…
as a juggler, mostly. In addition to creating and photographing my own recipes and writing this blog, I work as a health and nutrition writer and nutrition communications specialist. I teach individuals and groups about nutrition and wellness; I provide recipe development and marketing services to food companies and restaurants; I work with the media to educate and inspire consumers about how to make healthy eating easier, AND I write for several health and wellness publications. I started my own business several years ago, and although I’m in constant motion, I really, really love what I do.
Nutrition is a second career for me. I worked in marketing and communications for 10 years after getting my Bachelors degree from the University of Notre Dame. Always interested in food and health, I went back to school to get a Masters degree in Food and Nutrition from Framingham State University in MA, became a Registered Dietitian, and haven’t looked back!
I love…
when I find the latest issue of Bon Appétit or Food & Wine in the mailbox (yes, I still love to flip real pages) scoring a bargain on a great pair of shoes, working in my gardens, being able to exercise outside in warm weather (I used to live New England where it hardly ever gets warm enough, and now I’m thankful to wake up and see sunshine and have warm weather all year long!), and planning vacations with my family (sometimes more than taking them). I also have a fetish for paint and home improvement stores, which leads to endless redecorating projects around my house and yard.
I eat…
almost anything, but my favorite foods are wild mushroom risotto, almost any kind of soup, and dark chocolate.
